Hayward, Calif.-based Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center will pay $195,000 to three female employees after a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigation found they were paid less than a male colleague for substantially equal duties.

The payment is part of a two-year agreement that also includes injunctive relief, according to an April 1 EEOC news release.

In July 2023, a female physician assistant filed a charge of discrimination, alleging she was paid less than a male nurse practitioner. The commission’s investigation found “reasonable cause” that she and two other women were paid less than the male employee between April 2022 and August 2023, according to the release.

Under the agreement, the health center will conduct a pay equity study, revise its nondiscrimination policies, establish objective factors for pay, provide training and post a notice outlining equal employment opportunity rights.

Tiburcio Vasquez operates 15 health centers and clinics.

Becker’s has reached out to the health center for comment and will update this story if more information becomes available.
