Maine Medical Center Offers Buyouts to 400 Employees

Maine Medical Center in Portland has offered roughly 400 employees early retirement buyouts, according to a Portland Press Herald report.

The buyouts were offered to employees who will be 62 years old or older on Sept. 30. If they accept the buyouts, employees would receive one week of pay for every year of service at Maine Medical Center, up to 12 weeks of pay, according to the report.

Maine Medical Center is using the buyouts to save money — the hospital announced $13.4 million in operating losses halfway through the current fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, according to the report.
