Kentucky sees dramatic healthcare job growth after Medicaid expansion: 3 quick facts

Healthcare job growth increased dramatically in Kentucky last year, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data analyzed by the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy.

Here are three quick facts about the growth.

1. The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy analysis found a total of 10,500 more people work in healthcare and social assistance jobs in January 2016 than in January 2014, when Medicaid expansion began.

2. Within healthcare, growth in ambulatory healthcare services, which includes physician offices and other outpatient care, continues and hospital employment has rebounded, adding 2,300 jobs over the last year, according the analysis.

3. Overall, job growth in the healthcare and social assistance sector in Kentucky increased 4.6 percent since January 2014 compared to 3.1 percent job growth in all other Kentucky sectors.
