Gov. Christie vetoes nursing home staffing law

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has vetoed a bill that would have required nursing homes to keep a certain number of certified nursing assistants on staff throughout the day and night, according to a NJ Advance Media report.

The bill would have required one assistant for every eight nursing home residents during the day, one per every 10 residents during the late day shift and one per 16 residents overnight, according to the report.

The nursing assistant’s union supported the bill, while nursing home operators opposed it. Gov. Christie did not issue an explanation for his veto, according to the report.
