Gallup: Employee engagement reached record high in March

Based on a recent Gallup poll, the number of U.S. employees who identify as "engaged" in their jobs hit a record high in March of 34.1 percent.

Prior to this record, U.S. employee engagement was at its highest in March 2011, when the engagement was 33.8 percent. Before that, the record high was 33.6 percent in January 2012.

Overall, employee engagement has been on the rise since 2013 and has been above 32 percent since September 2015, according to Gallup.

These survey results are based on Gallup's interviews with 7,194 U.S. adults aged 18 or older working full-time or part-time for an employer. The interviews were conducted between March 1 and March 30.

Gallup classifies employees as engaged based on how they rate workplace elements, like having encouragement at the office and believing their opinions matter. Engaged employees are considered "involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their work."
