When the START Center for Cancer Care hit the ceiling on infusion capacity, the obvious fix was also the most expensive: build more space. Two high-volume infusion centers were straining against their limits, with one nearly out of room to grow.
Rather than expand, the START Center modeled and optimized the capacity it already had, analyzing patient flow, chair utilization and nursing ratios across both sites. The analysis surfaced significant untapped capacity inside the existing footprint — and a way to keep growing without adding chairs.
The payoff reached operations and patients at once. Both sites increased treatment volume and added treatment hours while wait times fell. The modeling went further, mapping where the center could absorb substantial additional growth without matching it dollar for dollar in space and staff.
Elizabeth Cavanaugh, MSN, RN, director of clinical services at the START Center, walks through how her team made the case for optimization over expansion, what the data revealed and how they turned it into daily practice.
In this webinar, you’ll learn:
- How capacity analysis can unlock growth inside your existing footprint before you commit to construction
- Why higher volume and shorter wait times reinforce each other rather than compete
- How capacity modeling reveals sustainable growth without proportional cost
