Researchers studied the utilization and spending associated with stress testing and CCTA testing in Medicare patients. They found CCTA was associated with a higher likelihood of subsequent cardiac catheterization, percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass graft surgery than stress testing. In addition, CCTA was associated with a higher total healthcare spending, primarily due to payments for coronary artery disease-related claims.
