The FY 2012 HHS budget is down from last year’s departmental budget of $70.44 billion. HHS funding includes $581 million for healthcare fraud and abuse control activities at the CMS; $30.5 billion to fund biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health; and $1.6 billion for community health centers.
The Senate Appropriations Committee’s bill also sets aside $4 billion for CMS operations, up from last year’s funding of $3.6 billion in order to continue implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and to accommodate an increase in the Medicare population.
