The Aug. 29 survey asked approximately 1,200 healthcare professionals if they have an emergency preparedness plan. Most respondents (78 percent) said “yes” and 18 percent said “no.” Only 4 percent were “unsure.”
MGMA said respondents who answered “yes” often reported their plans cover natural disasters such as inclement weather, fire and tornados. These respondents reported their plans also cover other emergency issues such as loss of computer systems, workplace violence and active shooter(s).
“Many also indicated that their plans have been tested overtime with drills and collaboration with local specialists such as fire departments to help optimize their plan,” MGMA added.
