Construction on the center, which will offer a new form of radiation therapy using proton beams, will begin in February. It is expected to open in 2014 for clinical treatments for a limited number of patients.
Other hospitals backing the development include Beth Israel Medical Center, Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital and Memorial–Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
