Adventist wants to move its hospital to Silver Spring and build a new $389 million hospital there, a location Adventist believes offers more opportunity to expand than its current location, according to the report. Commission member Barbara McLean did an initial review of the request and said the hospital did not demonstrate the financial feasibility of the project.
Other hospitals and health systems in the area, such as Cheverly, Md.-based Dimensions Healthcare System, oppose Adventist’s proposed move, claiming it would shift more un- or under-insured patients to nearby hospitals while taking away more paying patients, according to the report.
The Maryland Health Care Commission is scheduled to hear oral arguments on Adventist’s request Oct. 18, after which it will make a final decision.
