The initiative will combine IBM’s Watson analytics with Nuance’s speech recognition and Clinical Language Understanding solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Columbia University Medical Center and the University of Maryland School of Medicine will also be contributing their medical expertise and research to the collaborative effort.
Watson analytics is capable of analyzing the meaning and context of human language and quickly processing information to help physicians and nurses quickly obtain the necessary information for patient care. Watson analytics also offers answers providers may not have considered to help validate their own ideas or hypotheses.
The first commercial offerings from the collaboration are expected to be available in 18-24 months.
