Physicians at the Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute of New York performed the first angiocardiogram in the United States in 1938 and the first coronary angioplasty in the U.S. in 1978. Additionally, in 1994, Valavanur A. Subramanian, MD, pioneered minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. In 2013, physicians at the institute performed the first successful implant of Medtronic’s CoreValve inside a degenerative aortic bioprosthesis (a valve-in-valve procedure) in the United States. Lenox Hill Hospital has been named one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.
