The project added more than 100,000 square feet to the cancer center, allowing two inpatient units from Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester to relocate to the cancer center. The relocation of the Samuel E. Durand Blood and Marrow Transplant unit and the adult hematology/oncology unit, which will expand from 23 to 30 beds, means the cancer center now offers a continuum of inpatient and outpatient cancer care.
Each inpatient unit has private rooms that are nearly twice the size of those on existing units at Strong. The expansion also includes family waiting areas with conference rooms and an urgent care/triage area, among other features.
