Intel reveals 2 new pairs of ‘smart’ eyewear

Intel has introduced two new pairs of “smart” eyewear — one geared toward fashion and one for athletes, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company partnered with Hussein Chalayan to create a pair of wraparound sunglasses modeled on the designer’s runway during Paris Fashion Week. Mr. Chalayan’s spring collection focused on the intersection of fashion and technology. The sunglasses track the wearer’s heart rate, breathing pattern and brainwaves to calculate the wearer’s overall stress level. Intel has not revealed plans to market them for commercial use.

The second set of “smart” eyewear is a pair of Oakley Radar Pace sunglasses. The athletic glasses have five sensors, which track a variety of factors, including heart rate, distance and speed. The sunglasses come with a built-in microphone, which wearers may use to ask questions and receive answers on their phone. The Oakley Radar Pace sunglasses, which Intel initially premiered at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, cost $450 and are available for purchase online and at select retailers.

Both pairs of glasses utilize Intel’s Curie processor, which was created for wearable devices.
