The Virginian-Pilot reports that the 124-bed replacement will have 100 fewer beds than the current facility, due to advances in outpatient care and the upcoming opening of a Virginia Beach hospital jointly owned by Bon Secours and Sentara Healthcare.

The Norfolk replacement hospital, scheduled to open in 2014, will cost $200 million and include cardiac catheterization, lithotripsy, obstetrics, radiotherapy capabilities and larger ORs.
