Global ‘Innovation Cities’ index: NYC tops list

New York City is the most innovative city in the world, according to 2thinknow’s annual analysis, which also saw San Francisco drop several spots due to the ongoing housing crisis and controversies associated with the many tech companies headquartered there.

N.Y.C. surpassed Tokyo, 2018’s top-ranked city, to take first place on the Innovation Cities Index. Rounding out the top 10 most innovative cities across the globe are London, Los Angeles, Singapore, Paris, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Toronto.

The index is based on 162 indicators within 31 segments, spanning “all critical economic, industry and social functions of a city necessary to enable innovation,” according to 2thinknow. Indicators include number of hospitals, infant mortality rate, cultural festivals, green business, air cleanliness, wealth distribution, equality of women and more.

Here are the 10 most innovative cities within the Americas, all but one of which are in the U.S.:
