In 2010, FirstHealth received a CON to build an eight-bed hospital in Hoke County, N.C., and Cape Fear Valley received a CON to build a 41-bed hospital in Hoke County. Each hospital appealed the other’s CON, preventing either one from beginning construction. After mediation, however, the hospitals reached an agreement that will allow both organizations to execute their construction plans.
FirstHealth will build the FirstHealth Hoke Community Hospital at a cost of $34.1 million. The facility will include a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week emergency room; eight inpatient beds; an overnight observation unit; one operating room; laboratory services; imaging and diagnostic cardiology equipment; and room for expansion. FirstHealth hopes to complete the project by the spring of 2014.
Cape Fear Valley will begin a $100 million project that includes an outpatient center called Health Pavilion Hoke and a hospital with 41 inpatient beds, a 16-bed emergency department, seven observation beds, two operating rooms, four birthing suites, a C-section room and laboratory and imaging services.
Specific terms of the agreement were not released.
