Of the nine ACOs that have told CMS they are thinking about leaving the program, four may join other accountable care programs, such as the Medicare Shared Savings Program, which has less financial risk, according to the report.
“We fully anticipated that as these programs get up and running, some groups would shift between models,” Brian Cook, a spokesman for CMS, told Bloomberg.
The nine ACOs that are thinking about leaving the Pioneer program have not been identified.
