Backed by a $5.1 million federal grant, the initiative will serve the city of Norton, Va. and 10 counties where there is a shortage of primary and specialty care physicians. The initiative will also expand UVA’s virtual urgent care, home monitoring, virtual consults and more.

Joining the initiative is the UVA Center for Telehealth, the Healthy Appalachia Institute at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, the Southwest Virginia Health Authority, the Health Wagon, Tri-Area Health, and Johnson City, Tenn.-based Ballad Health, according to a Jan. 30 release from UVA.

The aim is to bring virtual care to patients that have suffered from COVID-19 and chronic health conditions.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
