The committee, called the South Dakota Legislature Legislative Research Council, met Oct. 23 to discuss recommendations for telehealth mental health access, a framework for virtual care access and funding considerations.

Sen. Deb Soholt, R-S.D., who chairs the committee, told Capital News Bureau that South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson are “very interested in virtual mental healthcare.”

The committee is currently working on telehealth recommendations for the 2020 session of the Legislature, which opens Jan. 14.
