Under the agreement, a neurologist from TeleSpecialists — a telemedicine company providing on-call neurology, psychiatry and critical care, among other services — is able to call into an ambulance via tablet to evaluate a potential stroke patient and connect with the ambulance crew. The remote neurologist can begin a neurological assessment and alert Catholic Medical Center to relevant data prior to patient admission.
One local ambulance company and two local fire departments have agreed to participate in the program. The telestroke ambulance program builds on Catholic Medical Center’s existing work with TeleSpecialists, which provides patients with remote, home-based telestroke and teleneurology services.
