Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed Health & Hospitals reported $7.02 million in cumulative net savings after implementing an enterprisewide supply chain and asset management platform in partnership with PartsSource.
The 970-bed system achieved about 31% sustained annual savings and reduced service cost variability by $900,000, which had previously ranged from $5 million to $6 million annually, according to an April 8 news release from the software provider.
WakeMed used the platform to manage more than 38,000 devices, integrating procurement, service and equipment performance data to improve visibility and control costs. The approach replaces fragmented vendor contracts — hospitals manage an average of 146, according to a PartsSource analysis — with a centralized, data-driven model for sourcing, maintenance and utilization.
The system said the changes improved equipment uptime, reduced downtime-related disruptions and expanded clinical capacity.
