Johnson & Johnson will invest $55 billion in U.S. manufacturing, research and technology over the next four years, marking a 25% increase in investment for the company.
The expansion will include four new manufacturing facilities, with the first breaking ground March 21 in Wilson, N.C., according to a March 21 news release from the company.
The 500,000-square-foot biologics plant is expected to create 500 permanent jobs and support 5,000 construction jobs.
Beyond North Carolina, J&J plans to expand on existing facilities and invest in oncology, neuroscience, immunology, cardiovascular treatments and robotic surgery. The company’s total economic U.S. impact is estimated at over $100 billion annually, according to the release.
