Through the guidance, Medicare will pay for the replacement of any durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies a beneficiary owned before the hurricane.
HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, created a waiver under the Social Security Act, which allows CMS to temporarily suspend certain requirements beneficiaries must usually follow — like obtaining a new physician’s order — to replace equipment.
“This action will help to make sure that beneficiaries can continue to access the needed medical equipment and supplies they rely on each day,” CMS said in a press release emailed to Becker’s.
