The device, developed by Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based Becton, Dickinson,
is a single-use plastic tube that relies on new separation technology to extract plasma from whole blood samples.
The BD Barricor tube reduces centrifugation time from 10 minutes to three minutes and lowers cellular contamination by 50 to 65 percent, compared to traditional gel tubes, according to the report.
