4 cost and frequency trends for 60k+ drugs

Arcadia Healthcare Solutions recently released a new tool allowing users to examine a drug's changes in frequency of prescriptions and price over the last five years. The resource contains information for more than 60,000 different formulations and drug products, based on data from CMS' National Average Drug Acquisition Cost program.

Here are four pricing and frequency trends Arcadia identified.

  1. Fifty-four percent of drugs measured became more expensive and less common. Examples of drugs in this bracket are Remicade and Hydrocodone.

  1. Ten percent of drugs measured became more expensive and more common. Examples of drugs in this bracket are Xarelto and Xelijanz.

  1. Thirty-two percent of drugs measured became less expensive and less common. Examples of drugs in this bracket are Zyprexa and Pariet.

  2. Four percent of drugs measured became less expensive and more common. Examples of drugs in this bracket are Lipitor and Levaquin.
