The facility, which will work to develop new drugs, medical devices, software and other treatments for pediatric diseases, is slated to begin its first phase of opening next December.
“Virginia Tech is an ideal partner to help us deliver on what we promised for the Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus — an ecosystem that enables us to accelerate the translation of potential breakthrough discoveries into new treatments and technologies,” said Kurt Newman, MD, president and CEO of Children’s National, in a press release.
Through this most recent collaboration, Children’s National and Virginia Tech will jointly recruit faculty, train students and fellows, and collaborate on research projects and intellectual property.
Also located on the new Children’s National Research & Innovation Campus is a collaboration with Johnson & Johnson Innovation, called JLABS @ Washington, DC. JLABS plans to work with pharmaceutical, medical device and health IT companies to improve biomedical devices, tools and treatments.
