UVA Health University Medical Center, a 696-bed academic medical center, is home to Virginia’s first National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, the state’s only comprehensive transplant center for adults and children, the region’s level 1 trauma center and a level 4 neonatal ICU. The medical center is listed No. 1 for Virginia hospitals by Newsweek for two straight years and is nationally ranked among the best specialized hospitals for orthopedics, neurology, cardiology and cancer care. U.S. News & World Report ranks its children’s hospital No. 1 in Virginia, with national rankings in nine pediatric specialties. For adult care, the publication named the medical center as “high-performing” for 15 procedures and conditions, as well regional rankings as among the top three in Virginia for cancer, rehabilitation and orthopedics. The medical center also recently earned a 4-star CMS rating. UVA Health recently launched Virginia’s first dedicated robotic cardiac surgery program featuring the cutting-edge da Vinci 5 system, advanced MRI-guided cardiac ablations, and major clinical trials using focused ultrasound to improve drug delivery for glioblastoma. The health system also launched “virtual primary care on demand,” enabling adult and pediatric patients five and older across the Commonwealth to connect online with a primary care provider from anywhere. It expanded access to care by opening the enhanced UVA Medical Park Zion Crossroads (Va.), adding an estimated 50,000 appointment slots annually for primary and specialty care patients. Looking ahead, UVA Health Children’s plans to add 40 beds to its neonatal ICU to ensure critically ill newborns across Virginia receive highly specialized care close to home.
