Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center has delivered care since its founding in 1955 and reopened in 2008 as a 10-story, 520-bed facility purposefully designed around patient-centered care and clinical excellence. As a level 1 trauma center, the flagship facility for UCLA Health handles more than 50,000 emergency department visits annually, supported by a staff of tens of thousands, including thousands of registered nurses. Every patient room is engineered to convert into an ICU, and clinicians operate in fully integrated, paperless operating rooms featuring voice-activated controls, advanced imaging and enhanced-vision lighting. The hospital has been consistently ranked among the nation’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for more than three decades, with recognized excellence in trauma care, organ transplantation and nursing leadership. In 2026, Newsweek named the medical center among its “World’s Best Hospitals,” “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals,” “World’s Best Smart Hospitals,” “America’s Best-in-State Hospitals” and “America’s Best Maternity Hospitals.” The medical center houses specialized floors dedicated to UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, and operates as a research and teaching hub integrated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, giving patients access to novel therapies and advanced clinical trials.
