Northwestern Memorial Hospital anchors the Northwestern Medicine system and serves as the primary teaching affiliate for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, a partnership that gives patients access to leading-edge clinical trials. The academic medical center, located in the heart of downtown Chicago, brings together physicians, surgeons and caregivers representing nearly every medical specialty. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is the only Illinois hospital ranked No. 1 in the state for 15 straight years by U.S. News & World Report, according to its 2026-2027 rankings, and the only Illinois hospital on the publication’s national honor roll for that same span. The hospital is nationally ranked in 10 clinical specialties and anchors the Northwestern Medicine system, which includes five hospitals ranked among “America’s Best.” Northwestern Memorial Hospital has also received Magnet recognition, the gold standard for nursing excellence, from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In 2016, the American College of Healthcare Architects recognized the hospital with its “Legacy Project Award” for forward-thinking design, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital was among the first hospitals to dedicate private rooms to all patients, a practice it continues today. The hospital’s downtown medical campus includes Prentice Women’s Hospital, Feinberg Pavilion and Galter Pavilion, among other facilities, along with restaurants, retail and wellness offerings for the community. Northwestern Medicine recently received an anonymous philanthropic gift to launch the Robert Havey, MD, Institute for Primary Care, which will help expand access, develop team-based care models, train the next generation of primary care clinicians, and advance AI-enabled tools for patient engagement, clinical documentation and care delivery.
