Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson’s first hospital, has served the community for more than a century and is now part of Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care, one of the largest nonprofit health care networks in the country. The medical center offers a broad range of services, including cancer treatment through the Baptist Cancer Center, maternity and women’s health, physician-guided weight loss and bariatric surgery, and a nationally recognized orthopedic program. The medical center is also a leader in cardiovascular care through Baptist Heart, along with neurology, neurosurgery and rehabilitation services. In March 2017, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center became the first and only hospital in Mississippi to earn Magnet designation for nursing excellence, and it was redesignated in August 2023. Today, the medical center admits approximately 21,000 hospital patients and performs more than 220,000 outpatient procedures each year.
