The Miriam Hospital ranked first among Rhode Island hospitals in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-2027 rankings, marking the 15th consecutive year the hospital has been named a best regional hospital. The hospital has maintained Magnet recognition for nursing excellence since 1998, making it one of only four hospitals worldwide to hold the designation for seven consecutive cycles. The hospital is staffed by more than 816 physicians, a nursing staff of 650, approximately 50 full-time house staff and more than 2,800 employees, and serves as a major teaching affiliate of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The hospital was the first in Rhode Island certified by the Joint Commission as a primary stroke center and has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s “Gold” or “Gold Plus” designation for stroke care every year since 2008. The Center for Bariatric Surgery at The Miriam Hospital was reaccredited in 2021 as a center of excellence by the American College of Surgeons’ metabolic and bariatric surgery accreditation and quality improvement program, and its Total Joint Center holds the Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal of Approval” for total knee and hip replacement. In March 2019, IBM Watson Health named The Miriam Hospital among the top 100 hospitals in the nation as part of the major teaching hospitals category. A founding partner of Providence-based Brown University Health, The Miriam Hospital marks a century of milestones in 2026.
