Allina Health’s Abbott Northwestern Hospital, the largest private hospital in the Twin Cities, has served its neighborhood since 1882 and now cares for more than 200,000 patients annually. The hospital holds four-time Magnet designation for nursing excellence. Abbott Northwestern’s Allina Health Brain and Spine Institute, launched in April 2023, became the first and only health system in the Twin Cities to offer incision-free focused ultrasound treatment for essential tremor and has adopted RAPID.AI neuroimaging to speed stroke diagnosis and treatment. The Allina Health Cancer Institute became the first program in the Twin Cities to offer histotripsy for liver tumors and the first in Minnesota to offer mobile CT lung cancer screening, and its AI-assisted image review conducted secondary reads on more than 220,000 patient scans in the first half of 2025 alone. The Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute’s Cardiovascular Care and Coordination Center has logged more than 8,000 curbside calls in its first 16 months, driving a 35% increase in direct admissions, a 49% reduction in time to accept those admissions, and a 27% increase in cardiovascular procedures. Abbott Northwestern recently completed construction of the Richard M. Schulze Surgical and Critical Care Center, a 10-floor, 620,000-square-foot facility opening in late August 2026 with 190 single-occupancy patient rooms and 30 operating rooms, making it the largest construction project in Allina Health’s history.
