IBM, Bausch + Lomb to develop eye surgery predictive analytics app

IBM and eye health company Bausch + Lomb are joining forces to develop an app that will provide clinical insights to surgeons who perform cataract surgery.

The app will be available on iPhones and iPads and seeks to manage patient data in the operating room electronically instead of using paper notes, and help them select intraocular lens to use in the surgery.

Health-related data will be stored in IBM’s Bluemix cloud platform. Pilot testing is expected to begin later this year.
