The hospital started switching to antibiotic-free meat about two years ago to help reduce antibiotic resistance in patients.
While antibiotic-free meat is more expensive, the hospital expects to achieve greater cost savings in the long run by treating fewer antibiotic-resistant infections, according to Joseph McBride, MD, an infectious disease physician at UW Health.
