For the study, researchers searched for published and unpublished randomized controlled trials that investigated the efficacy of triclosan-impregnated sutures. Altogether, the researchers found and analyzed conclusions from seven randomized controlled trials. Aggregate conclusions from these studies suggest triclosan-impregnated suture did not significantly reduce SSI rates or wound breakdown rates.
The researchers acknowledged the quality of the seven studies was moderate.
