Five updates:
1. The CDC reported 121 new cases of vaping-related illnesses this week, bringing the national case count to 2,172 as of Nov. 13.
2. Forty-two people have died from EVALI — e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury — in 24 states and the District of Columbia, up from 39 deaths a week prior.
3. Every state but Alaska has reported vaping cases. Most cases have occurred in Texas, Illinois and California, with each state reporting 150 to 199 cases as of Nov. 13.
4. The CDC identified vitamin E acetate as the chemical potentially causing the string of vaping-related lung illnesses. Vitamin E acetate is sometimes used as a thickening agent in vaping products containing THC.
5. Most EVALI patients reported using products containing THC.
