The Joint Commission noted studies provided evidence regarding the efficacy of mechanical thrombectomy for large vessel occlusive ischemic strokes. The new certification will help patients identify hospitals that meet rigorous standards for performing endovascular thrombectomy.
The certification includes numerous requirements, including demonstrating the ability to perform mechanical thrombectomy 24/7, maintaining dedicated intensive care beds for acute ischemic stroke patients and collecting and reviewing data on adverse events.
