Study: Standardized HAI Reporting Could Improve Infection Control

Applying standardized definitions and surveillance methods for tracking healthcare-associated infections is the next step in improving infection control in hospital settings, according to an article published in the American Journal of Infection Control.

The article, which prefaces a collection of case studies on nonstandard infection control scenarios, notes that systematic surveillance methodology has always been a key component of infection control, though recent investigations into quality reporting have revealed significant variations in data collecting.

The collection of case studies following the historical analysis of infection control reporting quality are designed to teach applications of the National Health and Safety Network surveillance rules and definition criteria, according to the article.
