The results also show gaps exist due to factors including cultural traditions, language barriers and lack of targeted messaging. Hispanics described their relationship with their physician in less favorable terms than non-Hispanics, based on statements that their physician:

•    understands their fears (Hispanic 31 percent vs. non-Hispanic 39 percent)
•    respects their opinion (Hispanic 36 percent vs. non-Hispanic 49 percent)
•    understands their needs and makes them feel at ease (Hispanic 40 percent vs. non-Hispanic 55 percent)

Hispanics were also significantly less likely to report that physicians discussed benefits and side effects with them.
