Pennsylvania Senate, House Introduce Nurse-Patient Ratio Bills

Pennsylvania Rep. Phyllis Mundy and state Sen. Daylin Leach introduced bills in their chambers to establish a nurse-patient ratio at Pennsylvania hospitals, according to a news release by the office of Sen. Daylin Leach.

The ratio would require a hospital to staff a minimum number of nurses according to the number of patients and the department. For example, neonatal patients would require a 1:2 nurse-patient ratio. Proponents say the bills will improve patient safety.
