Study: Keeping Inpatients in One Location Improves Care

Keeping patients in the same ward instead of moving them among wards increases patient knowledge and satisfaction and improves safety culture, according to an article published in the Journal for Healthcare Quality.

Researchers surveyed patients pre- and post-localization and found patients in one place had more opportunity to discuss their emotions and their care with physicians than patients who were moved.

In addition, physicians and nurses reported improved teamwork, collaboration and factors relating to safety culture with localized patients, according to the study.
