The researchers reviewed emergency surgery admissions over a nine-month period to determine ICD-9 codes of patients who were admitted for emergency surgery services. That data was used to create an emergency general surgery registry. The researchers concluded such a registry can help advance emergency surgery research, improve outcomes for emergency surgery patients and facilitate collaboration with other organizations.
