Possible norovirus sickens more than 80 students at Virginia elementary school

More than 80 students at Oakridge Elementary School in Arlington, Va., were kept home from school with symptoms of possible norovirus, including stomach pain, fever, vomiting and diarrhea, according to News4.

Health officials are testing the school for norovirus and disinfecting surfaces, according to a spokesperson for Arlington Public Schools cited by News4.

Among all age groups, 16 percent of acute gastroenteritis illnesses are caused by norovirus. The illness contributes to 56,000 to 71,000 hospitalizations and 570 to 800 deaths each year on average, according to the CDC.
