Pathogens live in most keyboards in medical facilities

According to an infographic produced by Man & Machine, pathogens like methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter baumannii live on most keyboards in medical facilities, including hospitals.

The following is a breakdown of how often these pathogens are found on keyboards, according to studies cited in the infographic:

  • MRSA: Found on 24 percent of keyboards in an Army intensive care unit
  • S. aureus: Found on between 12.5 percent and 62.5 percent of keyboards and mice in medical environments
  • A. baumannii: Found on 20 percent of keyboards at nurses stations
