Under a systems improvement agreement with CMS, the hospital agreed to partner with consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group to help remedy the hospital’s deficiencies, which included infection control issues. Earlier this month, the firm created a patient safety report, outlining specific shortfalls and action steps, which the hospital board refused to make public.
The report outlined more than 100 medication errors, infection control issues and blood transfusions problems, among other shortfalls, in the last three months the consulting firm observed the hospital.
The report was recently leaked to media outlets. At a meeting with staff members, Dr. Royer emphasized the importance of looking forward and maintaining excellence, according to the report. When asked why the patient safety report was not made public, he responded the media and public would not be able to fix the hospital’s problems.
