The program aims to have patients eat at least one more serving of fruits or vegetables every day. To incentivize the behavior, physicians will provide patients with Health Bucks, coupons for produce from the City ofNew York, to redeem at any farmers’ market in the city.
Lincoln Medical Center and Harlem Hospital will both feature on-campus farmers’ markets, according to the report.
Thomas Farley, New York health commissioner, said that he hopes the program will both combat obesity and improve general health for program participants, preventing the need for some pharmaceutical prescriptions.
