Clear communication, joint expectations, support to speak up and a strong safety culture are key to successful cleaning guidance, according to the report, which brought together a panel of nursing staff and cleaning professionals. To that end, the report recommends nursing and cleaning staff recognize the importance of teamwork in their endeavors.

In addition, the report recommends individual institutions assess nursing and cleaning staff relationships, and researchers continue to investigate the correlations between clean healthcare environments and positive nursing-cleaning staff relationships.
