The low-risk cesarean birth rate of 23.9 percent is a Maternal, Infant and Child Objective defined by Healthy People 2020, a federal project that measures progress toward health indicators.
The state dashboards also provide data on maternal morbidity, procedure utilization and chronic conditions that affect pregnancy outcomes. The Maternal Safety Foundation recently made a commitment to the Patient Safety Movement, a nonprofit aimed at eliminating patient deaths in hospitals.
“Achieving transparency is the first step toward making measurable progress in patient safety,” said Joe Kiani, founder and chairman of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. “By partnering with CesareanRates.org, we can provide state progress on maternal safety and help providers use data to make better decisions.”
